Visando distinguir obras que incentivem o pensamento criativo e o debate em torno do mundo atual, este prémio vem precisamente confirmar a importância do debate e polémica suscitada pelas conclusões do livro do economista francês. Já na sua décima edição, este prémio foi atribuído, em anos anteriores, a nomes como Thomas Friedman, Abhijit V. Banerjee e Esther Duflo.
